If you are an exercise instructor and interested in working wth people living with and beyond cancer please find the relevant information.

How to train as an instructor

There have recently been changes to the standards for qualifications in the fitness industry.

The standards and any qualifications for working with people with long-term conditions must meet the criteria that are now set by CIMSPA. These standards replace the previous level 3 exercise referral standards.

To be able to support people who have had a cancer diagnosis you will also need to undertake further training (previously level 4 qualification). Currently there are 2 recognised training providers in this area

If you already have a cancer and exercise qualificiation you may wish to join our Online Cancer Exercise Specialists’ Register. To apply to be on the register you must have

  • Level 4 cancer exercise qualification within the past three years
  • Or equivalent cancer exercise qualification that is over three years old plus a revalidation certificate
  • Or CanRehab Physio qualification or equivalent

"Being an instructor on the programme has given me the opportunity to help improve people’s lives through exercise, and I have witnessed first-hand the amazing benefits that exercise can bring to people at various stages of their Cancer journey. I have met a lot of inspirational people along the way and this encourages me to keep doing what I’m doing to help make a difference."

"Thanks to the CanRehab register, since May 2020 I have worked remotely with a wide variety of people from all over the country who are all at varying stages of their cancer journey, from initial diagnosis to living with and beyond cancer.   It has been so inspiring and rewarding to get to know each of them as individuals, and to make such a positive difference in their lives.   It is a privilege to be able to help by offering practical support at such a challenging time."
